I’m afraid I have to start this review off with an apology to K-Rino for taking so long to getting around to reviewing his latest album. Being totally honest the reason its taken so long is because I’ve been banging it on my system so much I actually realized that I actually hadn’t reviewed it and that its wasn’t on Rago Magazine! WTF?!!! LOL… So I gave myself a good old bitch slap, then made myself a coffee and rolled myself a cigarette before putting my headphones and listening again to what is one of my favourite Hip-Hop albums of all time… real talk! Yeh serious, you heard it right… this album really is up there in my all time top twenty albums of all time. Now let me explain why…

This album is one of favourite albums of all time for a few reasons. I’m into music in a big way so I like my shizzle to bounce and be mixed tight, mastered and well-rounded. Called me old fashioned I don’t care but I am a great believer that the kick drum should thump and the snare or clap should slap, and that’s exactly what this album is about. I also like to be entertained, educated, inspired and enjoy an audio excursion with the artist. All that is done here and it’s done brilliantly. The sixteen track album starts with a humorous intro where K-Rino is in a role-play with a big wig CEO before exploding with the superb ‘Soul Merchants’ where he breaks it down about how it really is. We then get a string of bangers before moving into one of favourite tracks on the album the VP Productions produced ‘Dem Laws’ where K-Rino talks on policing in the modern world.

Then just when I thought it couldn’t get any better on came track six. Oh gosh… shit changed my life! Real talk, this track is just so deep. Paragon’s production is absolutely brilliant with him dropping a beat that is just so ill. He starts with an infectious piano line that injects atmospherics so well. Then K-Rino drops in with a track about the system, the all-seeing eye, and the other forces that surround us. He breaks down the dollar bill is such a clever way before breaking down the days of week, which again showed me once again why he is one of favourite artists and is one of the best to ever rap a microphone. We then get a barrage of other killers before getting ‘Didn’t Ask’ which is like an audio film narrated by K-Rino. I also love ‘I Can’t Tell’ which sees K-Rino switch up his flow on a West Coast sounding groove. There is so many brilliant tracks on this CD I could be here all day, but this has really impressed me once again.

Well the simple fact that when people talk on Rap legends and never mention K-Rino angers me because even though he has never been on a major label or made a commercial radio track he has been one of the most consistent, actually scrap that he gets better with every project, so I’m going to say one of the most progressive artists in the game and has been actively releasing music since 1986… that’s twenty-four years homeboy! Do you research and respect the architect. Regardless of your preference on the demographic you rep, you have to give K-Rino his dues. Along with the Geto Boys he Houston on the map… that’s big shit right there. The other thing I want to say is that he makes albums. He has concepts, styles, diversity, and a talent to make the listener walk with him through his songs. He is a man you connect with, a man who can help you through bad times, a man who chats on things others don’t as well as being able to give you bangers and display of the art of lyricism that most MC’s couldn’t even dream of testing. Amazing… totally amazing.
