Yes, yes, yes!!! LOL. After a few months of seeing LATE’s new video for the title track I have been personally gagging to get my hands on this new album from the UK’s most consistent artist. ‘UK Rapscallion’ is a twelve track affair of full-on ‘proper’ UK Rap by the Wolftown general. What I like about this release is how pure it all is. It doesn’t seem to be manufactured for the mainstream although having tracks that have mass appeal.

There are so many highlights on this long-player I don’t really know where to start… so I guess the beginning of the album is a good place. It kicks off the ‘anti-pop rap’ title track that I love so much before getting into the bass-led ‘Real’. Next up is the awesome ‘Definition’ which features Genesis Elijah, Supar Novar and Wolftown’s new signing Manny Moscow before getting into one of my favourite tracks ‘Grey Skies’ which sees Jai Boo deliver an infectious lush sung hook.

As the album continues we then see LATE talk on more inner-city life issues on the excellent ‘Hoodlife’ where he is joined by Iron Braydz, Manny Moscow, Cyclonious and Blazin’. ‘I’m Still Here’ is next which I have been told there will be a video for and again impressed with phat New York style drums complimented by intricate musicality’s and LATE’s humble approach. This is definitely the right track for the second single and is a track I could definitely hear on the radio.

We then get some harder produced tracks in the form of anti-gun/anti-knife track ‘Locked & Loaded’ and then Bristol’s Streetz and London’s Manny Moscow joining LATE on the super-sick ‘Headbanger’ track before LATE going in with a track called ‘Worldwide Promotion’ which sees LATE ride heavy over some serious bass! With three tracks left I honestly believed that what would be left would be fillers, but in all fairness I couldn’t have been further away from the truth.

‘Elevate’ featuring Jai Boo is one of the best musical tracks I have heard come from these UK shores for ages, seeing LATE once again injecting positivity into an era that needs it before going into the drum-rolling bass-shaking ‘Stick With Me’. The last track sees Wolftown end an album like they used to with a massive posse track and ‘Mic Controllers’ one of the biggest posse tracks to date without with LATE being joined on an 8 bar relentless journey which features Manny Moscow, Tuberculosis, Iron Braydz, Supar Novar, Streetz, Reload, K9, Genesis Elijah, Blazin, Hicks, Sketchman, Serocee, Creamo & Jai Boo.

LATE makes Hip-Hop. LATE is Hip-Hop and for this we have to salute him. Never faded by current trends in music, LATE just does LATE and for that reason alone he should be credited but the fact that his music is so real and so genuine too makes this without a doubt one of favourite albums of 2010. The UK Rapscallion has arrived… salute!
