ULTRAMAGNETIC MC'S "CRITICAL BEATDOWN" Released 1988
I cant really think of anything bad to say about the debut album by The Ultramagnetic Mcs.The Lp entitled "Critical Beatdown" released back in 1988 on Next Plateau Records was and still is an absolute classic and is reguarded by many true Hiphop heads of the Golden Era generation as one of,if not the Greatest Hiphop Album of all time. For me Ultramagnetic Mcs made up of Kool Keith (Rhythem X),Ced Gee (Delta Force),TR Love (Funk Ignitor) and Dj Moe Love represented what Rap music was all about.Raw Beats,Next Level Lyrics, originality and a style that seemed years ahead of its time.Back in 87 and 88 Keith was rhyming about his Saab 1990 Turbo..Around the time Ultramagnetic released "Critical Beatdown",there was alot of other excellent Hiphop albums doing the rounds from artists we now call Hiphop legends such as Big Daddy Kane,Public Enemy,Eric B And Rakim,LL Cool J and Krs One (BDP) to name just afew but i felt when Critical Beatdown dropped it pushed Hiphop to that next level.Ultra seemed to be in a class of there own at a time when so many new and exciting things were happening in Hiphop. The album contained many classic tracks such as Funky,Ego Trippin,Give The Drummer Some,Travelling At The Speed Of Thought and Ease Back just to name a few and all individual B-Boy anthums which still go down at storm today at any True Hiphop night. If your a true Hiphop Head then i feel that like albums such as "It Takes A Nation Of Millions" (Public Enemy),"Long Live The Kane"(Big Daddy Kane),"Straight Outta Compton" (NWA),"Funky Technician" (Lord Finesse), Critical Beatdown should definatly be in your record collection..
