From the first track I got the picture of Big Si being a real down to earth rapper that actually makes music because he wants to. There’s no glitz, no glamour, its just good quality Hip-Hop from North Wales. Now I know you’re probably thinking ‘North Wales’? BUT please stop there… this is 2010 and artists like Big Si alongside Miss Tofelees are proving there’s more to Hip-Hop in the UK than just London. ‘Up’s & Downs’ featuring Belinda Hards on the hook is one of my favourites. The production from Miss Tofelees on this is super as she lays down a musical backing track for Big Si to get reminiscent on tales of his struggled up-bringing. Next up ‘Hip-Hop Aint Dead’ is a nice collaboration which sees Big Si team up with Slip Capone Slip Capone of the Dogg Pound who has worked with the likes of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. The other two tracks here are ‘Hardtimes’ is a deep lyrical affair but it’s the last track where I was super impressed! ‘My Best Friend’ sees Big Si pay homage to the genre we all love while Miss Tofeless gives up some serious jazz rap production to round up the EP superbly. Big Si can rap, Tofelees can make beats and together they are unstoppable. I really hope they do a Volume Three because this really is quality UK Rap. 01.
