Now for something completely different! Yes folks, in a world dominated by Grime emcees telling us how hard they are comes a UK rapper that approaches the game with a lot more ‘artistry’ than being just a ‘spitter or rapper’. This new EP is nine tracks deep and comes more like a mini album with singers Mary Jayne, Ellsie and Afrika Fuentes being the only guest features. The style here is very original and that’s something that I really admire, especially as the genre gets more and more popular. After a clever ‘epic’ intro we set if off with erm, er, ‘Set If Off’ an up-tempo groove that grooves with live sounding drums. Frid goes in using a clever hard hitting flow that is relentless! The goodness continues as Frid breaks down that he has paid his dues on ‘Learning The Trade’ and advises that maybe some other acts should do the same. Other notable tracks included the deeper ‘Dear Daddy’ which is slice of future jazz with an excellent concept that is delivered with precision and depth. The ‘Serving Time EP’ has put Frid on the UK Hip-Hop map. If you didn’t know, then get to know, the EP is out now on Bandcamp and all the details are below. Support real music and get up on this.
