When did you start making music and was there a person or artist that inspired you to start writing songs and hit the studio?
Let’s talk about your latest project, its sounding really tight. Who features on it, who dealt with the production and how long did it take to make?
Currently I am working on releasing my first 'full-length' mix-tape, its called 'Just Call Me P' and it features literally just me on the vocals and I have production from Politiks, Tritone, Dead Man Walkin, Baron Samedi, Dirty Stanz, Gadget MJM & Pro P. Its hard to say how long the CD has taken as i have had most of the tracks write for some time but didn't have beats for them and then I have also been longed off by a couple people.
My music really is just my music. I like to think I am completely original but I have been influenced greatly by 90's hip hop and UK artists like Terra Firma, Lowkey, Jehst and early UK garage acts like Roll Deep, Heartless etc.
The one thing I love is spitting a verse and then playing it back to hear it sounding how I imagined it would over the beat. The one thing I dislike about recording is the mixing/mastering process, it takes a lot of time exporting the track and then listening to it on loads of different speakers to check the quality of it then adjusting and re exporting.
I am releasing the mix-tape through my company 'Black Budget Entertainment' so it will be an independent release. I don't personally have a team pushing me at the moment I have a few people the support everything I do so big up to them but at the moment I am literally a one man army!
Basically I will be going for the whole online promo onslaught and I bought a CD duplicator so I will be pressing up a load of copies and trying to get them distributed through the local music shops/markets and I will be giving them out for free at events.
I have had a bit of radio play on online radio stations and pirate radio stations. DJ Bones and Mr 13 play my stuff on their radio show's and a few other guys that I know plug my track on air for me.
I have done a few live gigs but not supported for anyone. Most of my live performances have been at open mics or on my own.
I think that branding and artwork are very important for a release as fans are less likely to pick up an unknown artists album if the cover looks cheap or doesnt stand out from the rest. I create my own artwork at the moment and I seem to be doing a fairly good job judging by the feedback!
The last album I bought was 'Biggie: Ready To Die' I see the cover and realised I didnt actually own the CD so bought it. I listen to what ever or who ever as long as it sounds good! I could be listening to Bob Marley one day and Rod Stewart the next
I've got a load of videos on YouTube but no play on any TV stations I have how ever had a 'Warm Up Session' on SBTV and am waiting for a second one I recorded a while back to be uploaded.
At the moment my plans are: get this mix-tape out, record as many videos and do as many shows as possible then record another mix-tape or album! I am looking to release a EP with Mr 13 and will also be releasing a mix-tape in the future with features from other artists.
