Dollphace1

Doll Phace hails from Baltimore and made a cross-country trek to L.A as an aspiring artist.  She brought a strong love for music and her fierce Baltimore perspective with her. This tigress is about her business and is no stranger to the board room. The founder and CEO of True Vision Media Group, is a talented producer, director, writer and entertainer. While carrying out her vision to inspire through the arts, Doll Phace has secured performance deals for other artists, and produced and directed music videos and films. She’s definitely an inspiration to all females out there.

Would you like to introduce yourself?

Hey this is Doll Phace and I am in the building!

How did you get the name Doll Phace?

Actually the name Doll Phace came from high school. I used to run track and there was a guy on the track team that used to call me Doll Phace because I was pretty fast. When I would win a race I would turn around and smile with my dimples. So, he would shout, ‘Doll Phace!’ so, everyone would start saying Doll Phace.

You are a songwriter, entrepreneur, producer, director and accomplished performer. How did you first get into the entertainment industry?

Growing up as a child in Baltimore I was always inspired in the area of arts. I was always a part of a dance troupe I would always perform in musical stage plays.  So, I wanted to pursue a career in singing and when the opportunity came for me to be part of a group that was my first opportunity to come to L.A.

You also have a Degree in Electronic Media Management. Was that something that you achieved whilst in L.A?

Yes, that was from California State University.

Can you tell us about your company Truevision Media and what it entails?

Truevision Media Group is a multi-media company. It consists of films, television, music and stand-up comedy. It’s solely my company owned and operated but I have employees and consultants that run the company.

In April you dropped an EP featuring Snoop, E 40 and Baby Bash can you tell us about?

The E.P is basically a sample of an album that I’m putting together. It consists of five songs, out of the five songs I pretty much picked my favourite songs. I have been getting a great response from it. The E.P has tracks on it that like you said features Snoop with ‘Let’s go to Vegas’, ‘Damn right’ featuring E-40 and ‘Get used to this’ featuring Baby Bash. They are all upbeat fast heavy dance records.

You mentioned you’re putting together an album. Can you tell us about? Will it be available anytime soon?

Well, I guess I’m scheduled to do a release in the fall because I’m juggling a lot of different projects such as films, television and music. So, I’m really trying to be selective in the remaining songs that I am going to put on the album. I’m really trying to get some songs that I really really love. Hopefully I can wrap that up within the next few months.

Did you release any other music when you were in the girl group, or was the E.P your first release?

Yeah, this is my first solo project under Doll Phace.  The girl group was very short lived, once I got here from Baltimore the group didn’t really pan out. So, I ended up pursing other endeavours.

You actually produced some tracks on the E.P?

I bought in a producer from Grinehouse me and him pretty much collaborated on all the songs on the E.P.

Where can people go and pick up the EP?

They can go to iTunes or Amazon.com.

Like I mentioned earlier you have so many talents and was a co-producer on recently released film ‘Mama I want to sing’, starring Ciara, Lynn Whitfield and Billy Zane. Can you tell us about the film?

Well, ‘Mama I want to sing’ is an adaptation of a very successful stage play that was on Broadway in the eighties. I co-produced that with Jeff Clanagan of Code Black Entertainment. That was a great project starring Ciara, Lyn Whitfield, Pattie La Bell and Marvin Winans.

Will it be available on DVD for people overseas?

It’s on DVD and it will come out on BET.

Have you produced any other films prior to this one?

I produced Eddie Griffin ‘Freedom of Speech’ which is a stand-up comedy DVD.  That’s been very successful, it’s doing very well.  They are available from Amazon.com and also local stores over in the USA such as Best Buy and Footlocker.

Having your fingers in so many pies, how do you maintain and stay focused?

I have a passion for what I do, so I pretty much try to keep up. My office staff keeps a schedule for me and I try to balance everything out so I can get it all done. I love it all, but I do like producing more than anything else.

Out of everything that you do why is producing your favourite?

With producing you’re bringing people together. In the way that I produce I am hands on with picking the material, picking the people that will work on the project.  Funding the project and distributing it and getting it out to the market place. So, that’s what I really love to do! Whether it’s in the area of television, films or music, I just love producing.  That way I can make relationships and I get to network and do what like to do and that’s perform.

Have you found it easy or hard being a business woman in the entertainment industry?

You know? I found it extremely easy because of my background. I came prepared in the area of education and also in the corporate world; I was very successful before I embarked on the entertainment industry.

What is a typical day like for Doll Phace?

Oh lord! (laughs) It’s just like today! Running behind because I have so many different things to do, I am always on phone calls and connecting with people. My day to day just consists on following up and executing whether it’s music or television. It’s all day to day; I have to travel, go and do an interview, go do a press dinner or go do a performance. I may have to show up on set, meet with producers and discuss putting a project together.  Or, I may be in the recording studio or writing a song! It’s a lot! (laughs) Every day I do something different but I like it, I like to be crazy busy.

What’s next for you?

As we discussed is completing the album. I’m working on a television project that I am real secretive about because I’m coming from a different place with it. I want to put it out there and let it be fresh. I’m also working on a film project! So I’ve got some great stuff that I am currently working on right now.
