![]() Precha has been doing his thing for years and now he's back with a new vibe, a new attitude and even more importantly a new sound. Tricksta hooked up with him to get the latest... When did you start making music and was there a person or artist that inspired you to start writing songs and hit the studio? I've been rapping now for 15years plus. But started making serious music from around 98 -2000. We were young and was influenced a lot by Us artists such as 'Black Moon', 'Wu Tang' 'Scarface'. But what inspired me to get into the studio was 'Moorish Delta 7' Being also from the Midlands was inspiring. Let's talk about your latest project, its sounding really tight. Who features on it, who dealt with the production and how long did it take to make? The latest project I've got in Rotation is 'Evolve' a dubstep based record I've jumped on feat Miss Coco Brown frm Birmingham. Produced by 'Two seven' & Mixed, Mastered & Remixed by '91db' Took me a day 2 write & Voiced it 2weeks later. How would you describe the music that you make? I know it's hard to compare yourself to other artists and styles, but what kind of vibe is your music on? I Make Music that has a shelf life...that cannot be pigeon holed...and can't be just labelled as just 'road rap'. I try and be as original in a industry which is very 'follow fashion'. My vibe is Energetic, Clinical, thought provoking music. What do you enjoy the most about the whole process of recording and writing music? Is there something that you absolutely love and is there anything that maybe you don't like doing as much? I love how it all comes together when making music (Writing&Recording). The feeling when u can get your point across and can rhyme it aswell is almost Magic. I hate coming to the studio and seeing tons of people who don't have any business being there..like wtf!! Are you releasing your music on your own label or do you have a team that is aiming to help you get signed to a major? Everything I'm releasing @ da moment is all independent, I've grown a lot over the years and the goal posts I've been moved slightly. When I was younger I wanted so bad to get signed 2 a major, but getting older and seeing how fickle the Industry is. My artistic integrity will not allow me to compromise who I am. How are you getting your project out there? Do you have a distributor involved or maybe some shops/websites stocking & supporting your music? Up until now everything I've done I've done it by myself but always have had nuff support from my peoples Hoodcelebritys.com & Rawroots.com. Now I'm ready 2 take it to them on a next level and have just hooked up with 'Park Street' PR. So ask me this question in 3months and it should be contrasting to say tha least lol. Getting radio play can be hard for unsigned Hip-Hop artists, but have you had any radio play and if so what DJ's and stations have supported you? Radio play is always an integral part of showcasing the product, especially when your an un-signed artist such as myself. But I've had support from a lot of the hood dj's 'DJ Megastress' Hot 92 birmingham 'DJ Figa' Derby. 'DJ Cubzy' Sting fm Bham. Do you enjoy playing live? Have you done many gigs and what kind of artists have you supported or played alongside? I love performing live...but it has been along time. I went on a 7arena tour with 'Mark Ronson' back in 08 alongside 'Wale' , 'Rhymefest' & 'Wiley'. Then 12months later again with 'Mark Ronson' supporting 'JAY Z' Let's talk image and branding for a minute. Some artists spend lots of money on artwork and other acts aren't that interested. How important is image, artwork and branding to you? Image and artwork are an important factor when putting a project together. It shows a level of professionalism, but in the same breath, their are artists that put everything into the branding and forget the level of Music! What was the last album you brought and apart from Hip-Hop what other genres of music do you listen too? Wow the last album I brought I think was a No limit disc lol....I love listening Rnb & Reggae tho Have you got any videos on You Tube and have any ever got played on TV Stations? Yeahman I got like a Time line of videos on You Tube frm when I was in the group C.O.V. And then my solo stuff I did with 'Baby J'. And Currently the New Single 'Evolve' feat Miss Coco Brown. And happy to know I've had More than a couple of videos played on television. So what does the future hold for you as an artist? Have you got any big plans that you can tell us about before you go? The future is looking Bright bredda lol...Got Couple tings up my sleeve, one of them being a reunion with 'Baby J' and a Reggae album in the works Interview by Tricksta |
