Industry veteran Roy “Royalty” Hamilton III has over a decade of musical hits, power moves and executive decisions under his belt. He’s a producer, songwriter, composer, performer, director and business man, Hamilton is ready to unleash his own brand of empowerment through music.

Roy you’re a songwriter, composer, producer, performer and businessman!! Who has produced for many artists from Michael Jackson, R Kelly, and Keith Sweat just to name a few. Can you tell us which one of your professions came first!

I started as a songwriter/producer that’s how it all started. Basically producing and song writing was something that came naturally to me.

You come from a musical background am I right in saying that your grandfather was R&B singer Roy Hamilton and BB King is also your father’s godfather?

Yes Roy Hamilton was my granddad and BB is my fathers Godfather.

My goodness what experiences have you learnt from these musical greats about the music business?

I learnt a lot from listening to their music and what they do. I’ve been influenced by a lot of great artists; I listen to all kinds of music everyday from Pop to Rock, Classical and Country. I listen to so much and I get my inspiration from all those places.

This year your all set to release your debut album The Last Monarch/The MA Day on May 3 2011. But first you’ll be dropping 3 mixtapes to gear the world up for the album. Can you tell us about this?

Well they’re called micro mixtapes and micro mixtapes are based on 4 songs and I accompany the 4 songs with music videos. They’re just a taster to get people familiar with me. Most of it is over the top of high energy dance music. The single I re-cut is David Guetta ‘Sexy Chick’ you can get that now off the internet and it’d really hot.

So the first micro mixtape is out now, when will the other 2 follow?

The first one is out now and I’ll space them out so the other 2 will be dropping two months apart.

Tell us about the first single ‘The Invisible Man’.

The invisible man is basically my testimony record. A lot of people who know my story know that I’ve been behind the scenes and sort of an invisible man in a sense that I’ve never been seen before but you’ve heard me and felt my music. I took on the invisible man as kind of like a play on words and I’m going to take off my invisible suit and show the world who I am.

Did you do some of the production on the album yourself or did you hook up with various producers?

I did all the production on the album.

Do any other artists feature?

No the album is just going to be me.

How did you get your first break in the game?

Well that’s an interesting story! I was here in Atlantic City, New Jersey and R Kelly came to play semi-pro basketball for a team here. While R Kelly was here I gave him a demo tape and he loved what I did and decided to give me a shot and moved me to Chicago to start learning my trade which was writing and producing.

Like I said you have worked with so many different artists what has been the most memorable experience?

Oh man I’d have to say when I met Michael Jackson. It was great to work with him he had a lot of energy and I learnt a lot. We did one full day in the studio and I feel like I learnt so much just by watching him, his passion and his energy. It was real exciting.

That must’ve been great to work with such a legend! At just 24 you where appointed the Director of A&R for Capitol Records what artists did you help while you were there?

I helped Chingy with his single ‘Pullin me Back’, Tyrese, I helped Mims with ‘This is why I’m hot’, LaToya Luckett with her tour and release. Those were pretty much the main projects that I worked on while I was there.

At the moment are you just working on your own projects?

Yeah I’m just doing my thing at the moment. I’m just taking my time and building from an independent prospective.

Do you feel you’re at an advantage dropping this album because you helped develop artists and provided production and hit singles to many major artists so you kind of know what routes to use to be a success?

Definitely it’s helped me a whole lot because I’ve seen people that have done things wrong and make mistakes and I’m trying my best not to make the same ones.

After the release of the album what projects will you working on next?

I’ll probably do a series of 3 albums then I’m just going to run my record label. I have a lot of young talent that I’m developing and I feel like I’m just coming out so I can get in enough notoriety and a market share that I can break other artists. That’s my real passion.

As well as running your label will you continue to produce for big named artists as well as new up and coming artists?

I kind of like it how David Guetta does it, he brings the big name artist to him and he does the albums. I think that’s kind of the way I’d do it to move forward to succeed, that’s a possibility. I love how he worked with Kelly Rowland; the way I would do it is I’d take Kelly Rowland and I wouldn’t necessarily want to work on her album but I’d pull her in to collaborate with me for one of my projects.

Do you want to shout out any of your websites?

Yeah you can go to www.royhamiltoniii.com and all my other sites are on there.

Roy thanks for the interview any last words?

I’m will be in the UK promoting my records from January 28th till February 8th. I’ll be going around to a lot of the clubs promoting and meeting DJ’s just doing a lot of the groundwork to promote myself and the album.

Will you be promoting in London or other cities?

I’ll just be promoting in London.

Well have a great time in London!

Thank you very much!
