There’s a crew from the East Coast who are making noise. Tricksta keeps telling us they are going to be the next big thing, so we sent him to go and interview them. Ladies and gentlemen its time to learn more about So O.D as Tricksta catches up with rapper and producer D.I.V.

Okay, for those that don’t know tell us who is in So O.D and what each member brings to the table?

So O.D. consists of Nuf Sed and D.I.V. Nuf Sed is a lyricist from NYC and has lived in Harlem, The Bronx Queens and now Brooklyn. He refers to himself as an NYG going borough to borough. I (D.I.V.) am a lyricist and audio engineer, Growing up in Westchester County, Originally from Yonkers, and constantly in route with NYC. Me and Nuf have been working together since 2005, when we met at a recording session. I walked in, sat on the boards and edited his track in like 10 minutes. We been working together ever since. Right now we seek production from my boy Jay Chef, and a few internet producers.

That’s wassup. Are all the producers from the USA?

Yea, but trying to expand our horizons. I produce a lil too, but still sharpening my craft.

Cool. What equipment you rocking on?

Akai MPC2500, Motif 6, Proteus 2000, Protools Digi rack and a dope ass set of studio monitors. My mic I use is a sterling audio st77.

So what have you released to date?

I personally dropped an album with DJ Vlad called The Uncovered Truth which will be up for free download through my website divmusic.net. Nuf and I have done tons of tracks together, but we had some issues with our former team and the material was never released.

I saw there was a mixtape with DJ Kool Kid too right? Tell us about that.

Well that’s our upcoming album that we’re in the middle of releasing right now. It will be up for free download as well. Yea were working with Kool on a few things. As far as the Mix-album, because it’s all original, but in mixtape style, it will be our first official release together as So O.D.

That’s a big look!!!

Yea, it’s a great look. We met him and he was feeling the music, and we were feeling his energy, so we were like fuck it, let go. This will actually be Nuf first official release, although he’s got so much material in the stash already.

Is the first release The Overdose Volume 1 I keep hearing about?

Yea Volume 1, 1 of 3.

Yeh man I heard the 'Thas Dope' joint from there. Big track!!!!

Yea definately my favorite off the album. Nuf was locked up, and we were really fucked up from that man. We finished the whole album, and he got popped for crack possession right before we were about to put it out. before he went in we were working on the last track, Thas Dope, but we figured it was done for. Then one day he callled me from inside, and i was in the studio, so i recorded from the phone right into the mic, and layed his vocals over the beat for the hook, and its came out iller than id ever imagine.

I like the way you both flow. How would you describe your style to our readers?

I would describe it as chemistry, literally... substance in music.  We are raw lyricism mixed with reality, intellect, and creativity.

What kind of subjects do you touch on in your lyrics?

Well for this project we really explored the metaphor of being lyrically O D. we got allot of material for the shorties...because we feel women to us are addictive, and that we are like a fix to them, we got songs about money and its impact on us .... Money is a drug, and how we are out here getting it. As far as our next project it will be more in depth, more related to the effects drugs have on people, experiences of overdose and not just the appealing aspects. I think although we were on a positive side on this album, the reality of Nuf locked up and over the phone from rikers kinda shows the whole reality of it all. That shit put such a strain on our work flow, but we found a way to flip it to sumthin positive. That’s hip hop.

So the is Kool Kid going to mix all three volumes of The Overdose?

I think so... like were working with him in general, not just for one project where he’s hosting it.

So is Volume One actually recorded then now?

It’s finished, just waiting on the politics and formality of it all. Were gunna aim to release it by the end of this year, beginning of next year.

And volume two?

Volume two is coming soon, probably spring 2010; I actually cut a few tracks already. We gon do the Giant G Familli mix-tape first, which is our group. So OD is one half of the G Fam, the other two members are Sha Jiggs and D Boi. After that we gon drop Volume 2 also me and nuf got solos comin too

Wow, you got it all going on!! LOL - do you ever sleep?

Nah sleep aint in the repertoire right now. 3 hrs a night max lol

Hahaha... So what record label is this all dropping on?

Independent for now, we just tryna really utilize this internet man. Giant G Fam-milli all day.

Well you’re talking to me in Wolverhampton City, UK right now - so it works!! LOL

Definitely does

Well D.I.V., I just really wanna thank you for your time man, it’s been great getting the lowdown. Is there anything else you wanna say or mention before we wrap it up?
