TRAINERS by Neal Heard
‘Over 300 classics from rare vintage to the latest designs’
(Carlton Books, London)

This is just an excellent idea that has been executed properly. It’s a book about trainers, those things we love to put on our feet. It’s put together by Neal Heard who co-runs the White Riot clothing label and has collected trainers since the early 90’s. The book also includes contributions from various people Chris Hall a famous ex-pro Skate kid and Charlie Ahearn the man who wrote and directed the 1982 classic Hip-Hop film Wild Style. You get a little history about the whole vibe of trainers before it goes deep on some of the classic styles made by Nike, Adidas, Puma, Converse, Reebok, Vans, Dunlop, Pro-Keds, New Balance, Pony, Onitsuka Tiger, Fila, K-Swiss, Le Coq Sportif, DC Shoes, British Knights, LA Gear, Troop and more recent labels like Bape Sta, Duffer and Visvim. It’s a real tight publication and it’s written with a real ‘down-to-earth’ approach. Retailing at 15 quid this makes a brilliant present for someone as well as making the perfect coffee table book. Excellent.
